Customer experiences
We had an excellent experience at Canada Computers. Jordan helped both my brother and I pick out new parts for our new builds. He knew a lot about the product and helped us pick the best parts within our budgets. Thanks also to Mike and Chris in the Service Team, They had both of our computers built within 48 hours with excellent cable management at an extremely affordable price.
Husband brought his laptop in for a repair. The hinge was broken. They said they would call by the next Friday. By the Wednesday after that my husband had to call them to see what was happening. They said they were waiting for a piece to come in but they would keep him in the loop. He went in again today, Friday of the following week, (week 3 of them having it) and they stated that they hadn’t ordered the piece because he needed to pay for it up front. ($80) The manager then said it would be $56 for diagnostic plus a min of $150 for labour on a $300 computer. When he decided it wasn’t worth that price they still had him pay the $56 for diagnostic but he noticed they had scratched up the laptop really bad on the top and broke it more. No discount or anything for taking so long and the lack of communication. It took 3 staff to figure out how to work their own working programming to check him out. TLDR took 3 weeks to do a diagnostic where they broke the laptop even more than when it was brought in for hardware issues.
**Update: got a complete run around and mixed messaging from this location. It'll be my last time using them. Make the trip to Hamilton if you want client care.** Absolutely appalled by the client care of this location. I have dealt with Canada computers for years but never this location. I was looking for a specific motherboard and could not find it in Ontario and they said it would take several weeks but offered me an open box board. It was still over $500 for the board. I got the extended warranty to be on the safe side and they did a cursory inspection with me to show me that the socket was fine and ever since I got it home it's been acting weird like there was some sort of electrical short sporadically. Finally brought it back in when I was able to get back to St. Catherine's, they lied about the warranty saying that I'd be able to bring it into the Hamilton location that was untrue, then when I went to St. Catherine's they told me that they had to ship it to Hamilton to be inspected.?! As a person with a disability that affects my mobility, this run around was really difficult and inconvenient. There ended up being a small scratch somewhere on the back of the board that I couldn't see with my eyes, but they seem to think it has physical damage. There's absolutely no possibility that we damaged the board and I've never had physical damage in any board previously. I feel like they scammed me by giving me a defective board that they knew was problematic because as soon as I tried to get it warrantied they said that the scratch was my fault and hung up on me. I'm absolutely disgusted with these people because the whole transaction has been dishonest from the beginning and now I think they're an unethical bunch that dumped an open box on me knowing that it was problematic and defective. Buyer beware. I've spent countless thousands of dollars with this company over the years and this is it, they've lost me.
My roommate recently purchased a laptop from Canada computers for $450 all seemed well with it until she tried to use the laptop without it being connected to the charger and it just turned off. I ran a diagnostic on the battery and the so called brand new computer came with a fried battery. So we tried to return or exchange it about 5 days after purchase and we were turned away because we didn’t have the box because we threw the box out you know like everyone does with empty unneeded box’s. So now my roommate is stuck with a laptop she can’t even bring to her college classes and has wasted $450. I tried calling customer service as well and once again zero help. At least tell people you need to keep the box to return it at the time of purchase or have it written on the receipt beside the defective device exchange period. I will not be shopping at Canada Computers again.
